The first of two races at Iowa Speedway is set for Saturday afternoon in the NTT IndyCar Series Hy-Vee Homefront 250. Christian Lundgaard snapped Álex Palou's three-race winning streak last week in Toronto but Palou, the IndyCar Series champion in 2021, has opened a 117-point lead over Scott Dixon in the driver standings. Qualifying for the race was held earlier on Saturday after Josef Newgarden posted the fastest lap in Friday's practice. Iowa Speedway is a 0.875-mile asphalt D-shaped oval, with both races set for 250 laps this year. In 2022, Newgarden won the 250-lap contest on Saturday while Pato O'Ward took the victory in a 300-lap race on Sunday.

Palou's torrid stretch began with a win at Indianapolis on May 13 before he ran off three straight wins in Detroit, Road America and Mid-Ohio from June 4-July 2. Newgarden is 126 points behind Palou, with Marcus Ericsson (142 points behind) and O'Ward (143 points back) the only other drivers within 150 points of the lead.
Last week in Toronto, Lundgaard held off Palou by 0.518 seconds at the finish, with Colton Herta, Dixon and Newgarden rounding out the top five.
Saturday's qualifying will set the order for both races this weekend. Newgarden will be looking for his fifth win at Iowa Speedway to go with his victories in 2016, 2019, 2020 and 2022.
